Windows is one of Kolkata’s top film production houses. Founded by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee in 2002, it has been consistent in providing original content to the movie lovers of Bengal. In 2013, Windows produced its first film – Alik Sukh – which was a hit and was screened at the Marche du film section at Cannes Film Festival. Since then Windows has produced some of the most talked-about films in Bengal like Ramdhanu, Belaseshe, Praktan, Posto, Projapoti Biskut, Manojder Adbhut Bari, Rosogolla, Haami, Konttho, Gotro, Mukherjee Dar Bou, Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti, Baba Baby o and Belashuru.
The company has produced 15 films under its banner, out of which two are yet to release. These are Haami 2 and Fatafati. Over the past years, Windows has also earned a name for itself for serving as a launchpad for fresh talents. Not only have young directors like Pavel, Aritra Mukherjee and Pritha Chakrabarty worked with the production house, the latter launched actors like Ujaan Ganguly, Abantika Biswas and Solanki Roy.
Some of the contents produced by Windows have been lauded nationwide. Praktan’s rights were bought by Vishesh Films and they made it in Hindi with the title Jalebi. Ramdhanu was remade in Malayalam by director Rajesh Nair with actors Biju Menon, Laxmipriya and Suhasini Manirathnam. It was called Salt Mango Tree. Konttho has already been remade in Malayalam by Prajesh Sen and the film stars Jayasuriya and Manju Warrier.
In 2017, Windows launched their music label, Windows Music with the non-film music album, Ebar Morle Gachh Hawbo by Anupam Roy and Band.
The production house has produced a reality show, Rannabanna, which was aired on Star Jalsa from 2020 to 2021. More fiction and non-fiction shows are in the offing.
Windows has a vibrant team that does commercials. They have done ads for brands like ITC Sunrise Masalas and the Adani Group. It has also done four ads in the Assamese language for ITC Sunrise Masalas. Today, Windows is the most sought-after production house in the eastern region of the country and is constantly aiming at creating new benchmarks in the Indian film industry.
